As of April 6, emergency alerts in BC issued through the national Alert Ready program will now be sent to compatible wireless devices, such as smartphones, to ensure more people have the information they need to act quickly during a tsunami warning.
Wireless alerts will be publicly tested for the first time on May 9, 2018, at 1:55PM alongside routine television and radio tests.
At this time, Emergency Management BC will issue emergency notifications using the Alert Ready progam for tsunami threats only. Following subsequent testing, Alert Ready may be used in the future for alerting to other hazards and emergencies.
