Flood Watch: Englishman River & West, Central, East & South Vancouver Island. Dec 24, 2022

The River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch for:

  • West Vancouver Island
  • Central Vancouver Island
  • East Vancouver Island
  • South Vancouver Island
  • Englishman River

A significant rainfall pattern will move across the southern coast this Saturday, December 24th, and into early next week. Rainfall Warnings have been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada. River levels are rising in most areas, particularly in South and West Vancouver Island.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as conditions warrant.

A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected.  Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

A Flood Watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bank-full.  Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur.

A Flood Warning means that river levels have exceeded bank-full or will exceed bank-full imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.
