Flood Watch issued for Upper Columbia, West Kootenay & East Kootenay

Current situation

The River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch for Upper Columbia, West Kootenay & East Kootenay. Warmer weather over the past few days has led to increased snowmelt rates and rising river levels through the region. Stay clear of these fast-flowing rivers.

A High Streamflow Advisory has also been issued for some areas of the interior.

Flood Watch:

    • Upper Columbia including tributaries around Revelstoke, Golden and surrounding areas
    • West Kootenay including tributaries around Trout Lake, Lardeau River, Kaslo, Nakusp, Nelson, and surrounding areas
    • East Kootenay including tributaries around Fairmont Hotsprings, Elkford, Kimberley & surrounding areas

    High Streamflow Advisory:

    • Upper Fraser – East, including the Fraser River and tributaries from Prince George to McBride and Red Pass
    • North and South Thompson Rivers, including tributaries around Clearwater, Blue River, Malakwa, Sicamous and surrounding areas
    • Boundary including headwater tributaries on the Granby River and surrounding areas

    High Streamflow Advisory

    River levels are rising or are expected to rise rapidly. Major flooding is not expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

    Flood Watch

    River levels are rising and will approach or may exceed the river bank. Flooding may occur in areas near affected rivers.

    River levels have exceeded the river bank or will exceed the river bank soon. Flooding may occur in areas near affected rivers.
