ENDED: Special Public Avalanche Warning for many areas of BC. May 02, 2023.



Avalanche Canada has ENDED a Special Public Avalanche Warning for recreational backcountry users, which was in effect April 27 to the end of Monday May 1st, 2023.

The Warning applied across Western Canada and included many mountainous regions in BC:

Recommended Actions

  1. Leave a Wide Margin for Error:
    • If you are hiking, scrambling or recreating in avalanche terrain, stick to simple, low angle terrain and avoid all overhead avalanche hazards
  2. Check the Weather:
  3. Know your Gear:
    • Ensure you have essential rescue gear—a transceiver, probe, and shovel—and the knowledge to use it
